Learn to Lead Climb


This introduction to lead climbing course will teach any experienced top-rope climber how to SAFELY and successfully lead climb, choose routes, and manage risks. We've published a fully-developed guide on cheap-papers.com.


This course requires that you are comfortable climbing 5.7 routes on a top-rope. 





All equipment is provided including harness, helmet, climbing shoes, and belay equipment. Climbers are welcome and encouraged to bring their own equipment if it is in good condition, but it is not required.
Your guide will inspect all equipment before your trip.



This course will cover:
  • How to lead sport climbs safely
  • How to lead belay safely
  • Back-clipping, Z-clipping
  • The different techniques used in lead climbing
  • A review of anchors, rappelling, and how to clean a route
  • In depth look at the different risks involved and how to minimize them
Our priority at First Ascent is to teach our clients how to climb SAFELY! Not only will this course teach you the skills listed on the left, it will leave you with the knowledge necessary to make constructive and safe decisions for the extent of your rock climbing career.








Courses can be scheduled 7 days a week, year round.  Do to the amount of information covered and to give ample time to practice with our instructors we recommend a full day (6 hours) for lead climbing courses.
Courses can be done in a 4 hour half day setting as well.
