Introduction to Rock Climbing

Learn to rock climb course at Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, Colorado

            This course is perfect for the aspiring climber who wants to learn the basics of Rock Climbing. No experience is necessary to take this course!   First and foremost, our priority at First Ascent is to teach our clients how to climb SAFELY! Not only will this course teach you the basics of how to Rock Climb, It will leave you with the knowledge necessary to make constructive and safe decisions for the extent of your Rock Climbing career.

This course will cover:
  • How to Rock Climb
  • Rock Climbing equipment and its proper use
  • Basic Climbing knots
  • Belaying
  • Introductory technique

Intermediate Climbing -  Take your gym experience outdoors!

Intermediate rock climbing course at Castlewood Cayon, south of Denver, Colorado.
   
            This intermediate course is a perfect extension of our Introduction to Rock Climbing Course, or for anyone who has learned how to climb indoors at a gym and would now like to venture outdoors.

What this course will cover:
  • A review of the basic knots and belaying
  • How to safely set up a top-rope with a variety of anchors
  • How to rappel safely
  • How to "clean" a sport route
  • Intermediate climbing techniques
All technical gear is provided by First Ascent (Harness, Helmet, Climbing Shoes, belay equipment)

            We recommend some climbing experience before taking this course. For those with no climbing experience who would like a more in depth introduction to the sport, this class can be combined with our intro class over a two day period.

Introduction to Lead Climbing

How to lead climb course at red rock canyon open space, in Colorado Springs,
  
             The Introduction to Lead Climbing Course will teach any experienced top-rope climber how to safely lead climb. This course requires that you are a comfortable climbing 5.7 routes on a top-rope. This course will teach any climber how to SAFELY lead climb, and how to make the best decisions possible when climbing in the future.

 What this course will teach you:
  • How to lead sport climbs safely
  • How to lead belay safely
  • The different techniques used in lead climbing
  • A review of anchors, rappelling, and how to clean a route
  • In depth look at the different risks involved and how to minimize them.

Red Rock Canyon Open Space

            Located just minutes west of downtown Colorado Springs, Red Rock Canyon's sandstone cliffs are home to over 90 bolted sport climbing routes. Red Rock Canyon is a great place to learn the basics of rock climbing and rappelling.

North Cheyenne Canyon

            This magnificent park located on the south side of Colorado Springs is home to towering walls of Pikes Peak granite. With its unbeatable location and classic beginner routes north Cheyenne is the perfect place to hone your climbing skills.

Castlewood Canyon

            Located just west of Castle Rock, Castlewood Canyon State Park is a breathtaking hidden canyon which offers phenomenal rock climbing on is funky and fun conglomerate cliffs. With its close proximity to Denver, Castlewood Canyon is the perfect place to get away for a day and go climb. The canyon offers an abundance of beginner and intermediate climbs, along with a few advanced climbs, making it a perfect place for all skill levels.
